Also the music is awesome.īut it's a GAME at the end of the day, and sadly, playing it isn't much fun. The story takes it's sweet time getting interesting (or even good) and you'll have to read supplementary material from the web but it's just one beautiful thing in that regard. Now as a very interesting piece of media, yeah, definitely. Gameplay is crap, graphics are ps2 era level, framerate is just godawful, I can't believe how they could possibly butcher performance so much. Was on the same boat as you, borrowed a friend's ps3 and bought the game (even the dlcs). I think its worth exploring the story and its place in the combined universe (the Drakengard-Nier-NierAutomata universe), but in the end that's just my opinion.
I enjoyed playing it a lot, however its a game I wouldn't recommend like I would with, say for example, Nier Automata.
Would I recommend it? Yes BUT it is simply not for everyone. However I also understand a lot of people think the game is lackluster, boring and stupid. I LOVE the music of Drakengard 3, I personally like the story and its characters. While I think the fight itself is bullshit gameplay whise, I also love it story whise and feel like it does fit the narrative of the story. I've never beaten the final boss in branch D. Under some of their main traits, some do have character development. I feel under their some what more "extreme" personality traits, they are broken people who try to deal with all kinds of issues and that doesn't always work out well for them. I understand why they are the way they are. I personally do like the characters, with maybe one exeption. Some people hate the characters and think they are edgy, loud and stupid, some cringe when they hear certain characters talk or interact with each other. The game has some huge issues with framerate and the gameplay sometimes is pretty repetitive. It doesn't do anything to change the medium. Yes the gameplay is grindy, its nothing special or new.

I love Drakengard 3! However I know the game is full of flaws, for me the gameplay is not that much of an issue.
